                                                      King Abdulaziz University (KAU) - Jeddah, KSA

                                                      Period from 2005 till date

 

                                                      Joined KAU as lecturer and assignments were to propose a plan and strategies to introduce insurance education into the academics.  The main job was to head the study and research of the insurance market and devise an insurance program and a course sallybus compatible with local and international requirements.

 

 

                                                      Working on a memorandum of understanding with Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)

                                                      to promote CPCU products in KSA and work on  mutual  benefits.

                                                 

                                                      

                                                   

                                                      Conducted seminars and giving lectures on regular basis. Designed cooperative health insurance training program for Ministry of Health.

                                                      Joined ACE in late 2000 to the Managerial position. ACE is the oldest (established in 1952) and the largest insurance brokers in the Middle East and having branches in Europe and USA. ACE has its own subsidiary insurance companies most prominently the Saudi Arabian Insurance Co. (SAICO). ACE is also the agent of Mitsui Sumitomo with binding authority.

 

                                                      While working for ACE as brokers and for SAICO as underwriter the responsibilities includes as under:

 

                                                      As Broker

 

                                                      Provide consultancy to the client on insurance matter. Devising terms and conditions for all classes of insurance including tailor made insurances. Preparing bid documents, inviting and analyzing insurance quotations.

 

                                                      Establishment of reinsurance treaty for existing and newly formed insurance companies with the renowned international reinsurers. Also have considerable approach and experience to tap facultative reinsurance support from London and European markets.

 

                                                      Being claim settling agents and surveyors of many local and international firms (such as Lloyd’s of London, W. K. Webster et al), the responsibility is to render technical expertise in claims handling and shaping up survey reports.

 

                                                      While working for ACE, also got extensive exposure to deal with unique and less common insurances such as Bankers Blanket Bond, 3D Bond and retail Protection for Credit Card, Marine Hull and Aviation insurance, Livestock / Bloodstock etc.

 

 

                                                      Being part of the Management in ACE plays prominent role in business promotion strategy, efficient management, and effective office administration including staff’s appraisals and handling marketing team.

 

                                                      As an Insurer

 

                                                      As an insurer of SAICO, had binding authority to conclude insurance deals without referring to them. This provided an opportunity to act and perform as insurers which includes negotiation, preparation of quotation, policy drafting and signing, reinsurance placement and acceptance and similar tasks for almost all classes of insurance but most commonly for Property, Pecuniary, Liability, Engineering, Marine, Auto Accident and Medical insurance.

                                                      Period 1995 to 2000

 

                                                      In 1995, joined CCI, which was later transformed to Gulf Cooperation Insurance Company. With the designation of Asst. Manager in their largest Branch, assignments were the preparation of quotations and handling of underwriting of all classes of insurance. Subsequently the claims department was also assigned where I was responsible mainly for taking decision on technical matters, correspondence, negotiations, supervising and managing survey, checking and approving claims of all classes.

 

                                                      Also Gulf Cooperation Ins. Co. established a  subsidiary consultancy firm viz. Marketing & Commercial Agencies of  which I was the active member providing consultancy work.

 

                                                      Premier Insurance Company of Pakistan Ltd. 1990 – 1995

 

                                                      Late 1990 – Began insurance career as “Trainee Officer”. After intensive training in Marine, Motor, Property and Reinsurance department, I was promoted to Superintendent and subsequently to Assistant Manager. Banked considerable underwriting experience in Property, Marine, Motor and Engineering area. Also earned appreciation in Marine Hull claims and Carriers recovery and was representing Premier in the Court of Law in respect of cases linked with maritime cargo & hull claims.

 

Exposure in U.K.                    :     Visited UK to study “Diploma in Insurance”, from Glasgow University, Glasgow. During one and half years stay also availed the opportunity to spend time at Lloyd’s of London to acquaint with their working environment.

 

Commendations                     :     In recognition of presentation offered at King Abdul Aziz University on insurance topic, the university offered me to lead the insurance department. Also received written offers from Lloyd’s Broker and other reputable Insurance Companies in the Middle East.
